The new Korean duo of Yang Hyun-joon and Oh Hyun-gyu have joined the ranks of Cha Doo-ri and Ki Sung-yong.
Celtic cruised to a 6-0 victory over Aberdeen in the 13th round of the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership at Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland, on December 12 at 11:30 p.m. ET.
Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points over Rangers, who have played one game less.
Celtic deployed a 4-3-3 formation. Luis Palma, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Hyun-Jun Yang formed the attack, while Odin Thiago Holm, Matthew O’Reilly, and Callum McGregor formed the midfield. Greg Taylor, Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Alistair Johnstone formed the defense. Joe Hart was in goal.
Celtic took an early lead. It was Yang Hyun-joon’s debut goal. In the ninth minute, he headed home a cross from Palma to open the scoring.
With his confidence boosted, Yang continued to play well. In the 16th minute of the first half, he showed his sharpness by breaking through the side and delivering a center pass. This led to another goal. This was followed by Furuhashi’s goal to widen the gap for Celtic.
Yang’s presence continued. In the 38th minute, he connected with a cross after a brilliant dribbling run to revitalize Celtic’s attack.
Celtic had their moments. Four minutes into the second half, Furuhashi went down after clashing heads with an opponent. Oh Hyun-gyu was brought on to change the offense.
Yang Hyun-joon was also injured. He collided with an Aberdeen defender in the 24th minute of the second half and had to be taken off with a deep scar around his eye.
Celtic’s attack was led by Oh Hyun-gyu. He looked sharp and focused on finding the back of the net, and he had a chance in the 28th minute.
Oh vomited up while attempting to shoot in the box, earning a penalty kick. Palma stepped up to take the spot kick and Celtic extended their lead.레모나토토 도메인
Celtic’s firepower was hot. In second-half stoppage time, Turnbull connected with a quick mid-range shot that was converted to put the game out of reach.
Oh joined in on the Celtic fireworks. In second-half stoppage time, he headed home a cross from Palma to open the scoring.
Oh didn’t stop there. After receiving a pass from O’Reilly, he broke free on the dribble and finished with a right-footed shot for his sixth goal of the season.
Oh had previously recorded a multi-goal performance against Aberdeen, and he used his fond memories to repeat the pleasant result.
With Yang and Oh on the scoresheet side by side, they joined Chaduri and Ki Sung-yueng as the first Korean leaguers to score in the same game in 13 years.
Yang Hyun-joon and Oh Hyun-gyu were also recognized for their performances with top ratings.
The soccer statistics site Fúscore.com gave Yang an 8.4 and Oh an 8.5. Both were in the top tier of Celtic.
Yang and Oh are the latest Korean duo to join the Celtic roster after Chaduri and Ki Sung-yueng.
Chaduri and Ki Sung-yueng’s standout performances for Celtic have earned them the delightful moniker of train duo.
Chadli and Ki have fond memories of opening the scoring against Johnstone in December 2010. For the first time in 13 years, Yang Hyun-joon and Oh Hyun-gyu scored in the same game.
“Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers bounced back from defeat to Atletico Madrid with a 6-0 thrashing of Aberdeen,” said the BBC.
“Yang harassed the Aberdeen defense to score his first goal for Celtic and was named man of the match ahead of Palma. It was an impressive performance in a rare start.”
The Glasgow World, a Scottish publication, said: “Yang was special. He had a big chance to impress Rodgers. His trickery and intelligent movement caused Aberdeen a lot of problems,” said the Scottish publication.
“Oh Hyun-Gyu made a huge impact as a substitute,” he added, praising the Korean duo.
Oh joined Celtic from Suwon Samseong. In his first season at Celtic, he was largely a substitute behind the in-form Furuhashi. This season, the competition hasn’t been any easier.
Oh has made his presence felt by being a comfortable goal scorer in situations where he can make an impact.
Yang Hyun-jun burst onto the professional scene with Gangwon FC. He gradually showed promise and exploded onto the scene last season, earning the K League Young Player Award for his performance.
As a K League All-Star last summer, Yang played in a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur, and his performance was so impressive that it opened the door for him to play in Europe with Celtic.
