LG’s right-handed hitting prospects showed off their long balls in the Cheongbaeik game. Rookie Kim Bum-seok hit a two-run home run and “Jamsil Big Boy” Lee Jae-won had a single and a double메이저놀이터.
LG held its third Blue-Black Game (eight innings) at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Sept. 29. The team had previously played two whitewash games at LG Champions Park in Icheon and switched venues to Jamsil Stadium to begin training for the Korean Series.
The blue team, which had a lineup of backup players, tied 3-3 with the white team, which had a lineup of starters. Kim Bum-seok, a first-round rookie who joined the team this year, hit a two-run home run, and Lee Jae-won hit a two-run double that flew over the fence. Ahn Ik-hoon had a multi-hit game with two hits in four at-bats.
Ko Woo-seok pitched the final inning for the Blue Team, allowing three runs on two hits and one walk.
Lee Jung-yong and Kim Yoon-sik, who are competing for the fourth spot, started side-by-side on the day. Lee topped out at 146 mph on his fastball, allowing two runs on five hits, one home run, one walk and two strikeouts in 3⅔ innings (60 pitches). Kim Yun-sik pitched 2 innings (40 pitches) with 2 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, and no runs. He threw his fastball between 145 and 136 mph.
In his first game in 64 days since Aug. 26, Ham Deok-ju pitched one inning of scoreless relief with one strikeout. Son Ju-young pitched three innings (57 pitches) of four-hit, two-strikeout ball, Lee Ji-gang pitched one-third of a scoreless inning, Park Myung-geun pitched one inning of two-hit ball with one strikeout, Baek Seung-hyun pitched one inning of one-hit ball, Choi Dong-hwan pitched one inning of one-hit ball, and Yoo Young-chan pitched one inning of one-hit ball.
The starting lineup for the backup team was Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Park Hae-min (center fielder), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), and Jung Ju-hyun (second baseman). The starting pitcher was Lee Jung-yong.
The backup team, Cheongnam, started Shin Min-jae (designated hitter), Ahn Ik-hoon (center fielder), Kim Bum-seok (first baseman), Lee Jae-won (left fielder), Son Ho-young (shortstop), Song Chan-ui (third baseman), Seo Gun-chang (second baseman), Heo Do-hwan (catcher), and Kim Hyun-jong (right fielder). The starting pitcher was Kim Yun-sik.
Kim Hyun-jong, who batted ninth in right field, is an outfielder selected in the second round of the 2024 KBO Draft. He also played one inning in the second blue-black game during the Icheon training. “We’re watching to see if we’ll take him to spring training next year,” manager Yoon Kyung-yeop said.
Kim Bum-seok of the Blue Team opened the scoring in the first inning. Shin Min-jae, who led off the inning, grounded out to the second baseman, and Ahn Ik-hoon singled to right.
On a two-pitch, one-strike count, Kim Bum-seok launched a line drive over the left field fence for a two-run home run off Lee Jung-yong. He swung at a slider (130 meters) that came in high on his body, and the ball went over the fence like a clothesline with a low trajectory of 16.5 degrees of launch angle. The home run traveled 111 meters.
After the home run, Lee retired Lee Jae-won and Son Ho-young in succession. Lee Jae-won hit a foul home run that just missed the right field foul pole and then struck out swinging on a changeup.
Lee Jung-yong gave up a leadoff double to Song Chan-ui in the second inning. He got Seo Gun-chang to fly out to left field and tagged out Song Chan-ui, who tried to steal third. Two batters later, Heo Do-hwan was hit by a pitch, but Kim Hyun-jong flied out to right field to end the inning.
In the third inning, Shin gave up a leadoff single to Shin Min-jae, but he got out of the inning with a double steal and back-to-back grounders to the outfield. In the top of the fourth, he gave up a single up the middle to Son Ho-young and struck out Song Chan-ui, allowing him to steal second base. She was replaced by Lee Ji-gang at second base. Lee Ji-gang ended the inning with an outfield grounder.
Against Kim Yun-sik in the first inning, Hong Chang-ki grounded out to second base and Park Hae-min grounded out to shortstop. Two batters later, Kim Hyun-soo hit a line drive that just missed the second baseman’s height, and Austin walked. With runners on first and second, Oh fouled out to third. Two batters later, Moon Sung-ju singled to right, but Jung Joo-hyun struck out swinging.
In the third inning, Hong Chang-ki singled to center and Park Hae-min singled to right to put runners on first and third with no outs. Kim Hyun-soo grounded out between shortstop and left fielder.
With Austin at the plate, Park Hae-min attempted to steal second, and when the catcher threw to second, Hong Chang-ki slid into home for a delayed double steal. As soon as second baseman Seo Gun-chang caught the throw, he threw home and Hong was tagged out.
Hong made a head-first slide, but didn’t extend his hand enough at the last second to avoid colliding with the catcher. Park Hae-min then stole third, but Austin grounded out to second and third to end the inning.
In the top of the fourth, Oh Ji-hwan led off with a single up the middle, but Moon Bo-kyung ended the threat with a strong grounder to the second baseman.
In the fifth, Moon Sung-ju led off with a walk and tried to steal second base, but was tagged out. One out later, Jung Ju-hyun singled to center field and Hong Chang-ki walked. However, Park Hae-min grounded out to shortstop to end the threat.
Park Myung-geun took the mound in the top of the sixth and gave up a double to leadoff hitter Ahn Ik-hoon. He struck out Kim Bum-seok on a wild pitch, but gave up a run to Lee Jae-won on a double that landed in front of the left-center field fence.
He then got Son Ho-young to fly out to right field and Song Chan-ui to walk before giving up a double steal of second and third. With runners on second and third, Seo struck out Seo Gun-chang to end the threat.
Baek Seung-hyun of the Blue Team came on in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a single to Austin with one out. Oh Ji-hwan flied out to center field for the second out, but Choi Seung-min failed to steal second base to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Yoo Young-chan struck out Moon Bo-kyung, Park Dong-won grounded out to the infield, and Moon Sung-joo grounded out to the outfield to end the inning.
In the top of the eighth inning, Ham Deok-ju pitched for the White team. Ham was rehabbing after being removed from the first team roster due to elbow pain after the NC game on Aug. 26. He pitched in a practice game for the first time since then.
He walked Ahn Ik-hoon and Kim Bum-seok and then made an error on Lee Jae-won’s grounder that the third baseman dropped behind the plate. He walked Son Ho-young to put runners on first and second, but struck out Song Chan-ui to end the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, Go Woo-seok came on for the Blue Team. He got Jung Ju-hyun to ground out to third base and walked Hong Chang-ki. He allowed Park Hae-min to hit a one-out triple off the right field fence. With runners at first and third, Kim Hyun-soo grounded out to the first baseman. Allowed Austin to hit a tying solo home run over the left-center field fence.
