Calvin Phillips could be on his way out of Manchester City.
British outlet TalkSPORT reported on Tuesday (Nov. 20), 토토사이트“With little playing time at City, Phillips is thinking about his future. Newcastle are considering signing Phillips in the January transfer window following Sandro Tonali’s betting scandal. Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in Phillips.”
Newcastle signed Tonali this summer. Tonali has been described as the “next Andrea Pirlo” due to his ball distribution and defense. While his style is different from Pirlo’s, the fact that he was recognized as a potential successor to the Italian midfielder speaks volumes about his quality. Tonali was settling in at Newcastle, making seven league appearances this season.
Suddenly, there was a twist. Tonali was accused of illegal betting. In addition to Nicolo Fazioley, Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo have now been charged with illegal betting. This led to Tonali and Zaniolo being suspended from the Italian national team for the October A-match. Tonali admitted to betting and is unlikely to escape punishment. Pazzioli received a seven-month suspension.
Newcastle are considering Phillips as Tonali’s replacement. Phillips joined City from Leeds United but failed to establish himself in the side. He came off the bench last season as City won the treble. Phillips made just 21 appearances in all competitions. His average playing time was 28 minutes.
This summer, Phillips was linked with moves to Newcastle, West Ham, and Liverpool. However, Phillips didn’t move and chose to stay at City. Things didn’t get any better. He was still not in Pep Guardiola’s plans. Phillips played 70 minutes in three league games this season.
His lack of playing time has led to him considering a move away. However, a hole in Newcastle’s midfield has opened up an opportunity. With Phillips also looking for more playing time, a deal could go through smoothly.
Meanwhile, Munich are also reportedly interested in Phillips. The Bavarians made a move for defensive midfielder João Palinha this summer, but it fell through. Reports have recently surfaced that Fulham have set a high price tag for Palinha, leaving Munich in a quandary. The Bavarians could give up on Palinha and try to bolster their midfield with Phillips.
