Founded in 1998, Tampa Bay uses Tropicana Field as its home stadium. However, Tropicana Field’s 30-year lease agreement expires in 2027. Tampa Bay pursued the construction of a new stadium, but it did not work out as planned, and they have been pursuing a relocation to a location other than their current home in St. Petersburg, Florida.
However, Tampa Bay decided to remain in St. Petersburg as it decided to build a state-of-the-art baseball stadium with 30,000 seats. The new baseball stadium will be built as a closed dome stadium, and construction is scheduled to begin in 2028. Construction of the new stadium will begin in the second half of 2024. Accordingly, Tampa Bay home games are expected to be held in the new stadium starting in 2028.
According to local media, the construction cost is estimated at about $1.3 billion (about 1.73 trillion won). Each city will contribute $300 million, and Tampa Bay will be responsible for the remaining costs. Once the new stadium is completed, Tropicana Field will be demolished.
