The South Korean women’s national soccer team’s chances of reaching the round of 16 at the FIFA 2023 World Cup Australia-New Zealand are slim. Two consecutive group losses have left them bottom of the group, and they need a five-goal win over ‘favorites’ Germany in their third game to have any real hope. South Korea will play their final group game against Germany on March 3.
Colin Bell’s side lost their second Group H match against Morocco 0-1 at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide, Australia, on Sept. 30. They lost their first game against Colombia 0-2 on Sept. 25. With the loss, South Korea has now lost two games without scoring a goal and is in last place in the group. Add to that the fact that Colombia defeated Germany (2-1 Colombia) in the same group, and South Korea’s path to the round of 16 becomes even more difficult.
South Korea needs to beat Germany by more than five goals to advance to the round of 16. However, Germany is one of the most dominant teams in Europe, making it virtually impossible to beat them. Germany has appeared in all nine World Cup finals, winning back-to-back titles in 2003 in the United States and 2007 in China. They have also finished on top of the European Championship 11 times. South Korea, on the other hand, has just one win, one draw and 10 losses in the Women’s World Cup, and has lost six straight since the round of 16 against France at the 2015 tournament. The team has also struggled to record a single shot on target against Morocco, one of the weakest teams in Group H of the tournament.
South Korea could beat Germany by four goals to even their goal differential at +1, but that would be difficult because of Germany’s superior goal differential. Even if South Korea wins by five goals, there is another condition. Morocco must lose to Colombia. Only then will South Korea qualify for the round of 16 as second in the group.
Nevertheless, the team is not giving up hope and is practicing hard. The team returned to the base camp in Campbelltown at over 11 p.m. after playing Morocco in Adelaide, South Australia, the day before. They then practiced for about an hour on the 31st. 메이저놀이터
Bell gave the starters who had played the previous day free reign and worked with the reserves who did not play or had limited playing time.
The team will play their final group game against Germany on March 3 at Brisbane Stadium in Queensland, Australia.
